Health, Healthcare Science and Science specific updates April 2023
As part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening our products and the implementation of our new quality assurance processes we have amended the sample paper for Health Paper B Mark Scheme as approved by IfATE - with the following change:
Q17, page 25 – 26
Original content:
Award one mark for extrapolating correct data from drug label in formula: • physical = 8 days and biological = 66 days (1 AO1). Award one mark for the process of using formulae: • 1/(8 x 24 x 60 x 60) + 1 / (66 x 24 x 60 x 60) = 1.622 x 10-6 Effective half-life = sqrt 1.622 x 10-6 = 0.00127 x 60 sec x 60 min (1 AO2). Award one mark for correct answer: • = 4.6 hours (1 AO2). Note: One mark can be awarded for follow through (FT) error if incorrect answer matches incorrect numbers used in the correct formulae.
New content:
Award one mark for extrapolating correct data from drug label in formula: Physical Half-life = 8 Days 0 Hours Biological Half-life (For a person without hyperthyroidism) = 66 Days Award one mark for the process of using formulae: 1/(T effective)=1/(T physical)+ 1/(T biological) 1/(T effective)=1/8+ 1/66 1/(T effective)=0.140 T effective= 1/0.140 Award one mark for the correct answer T effective= 7.1 Days Allow correct answer in other units of time: T effective= 171.2 Hours T effective= 10,274.6 Minutes T effective= 616,475.7 Seconds
Rationale for change:
The previous mark scheme incorrectly used square root and did not allow the learners to answer in different units.
T Level Health, Healthcare Science and Science year 2 workshops
Aimed at teaching and delivery staff of the T Level Technical Qualification in Health, Healthcare Science or Science, these sessions will focus on year 2 and the delivery of the occupational specialism content.
These CPD sessions will explore:
- Approaches to curriculum planning and delivery of the occupational specialism content
- How resources could be used and adapted to meet the needs of a range of students
- Teaching and learning strategies that could be used and adapted to prepare students for the synoptic assessments
- Sharing of best practice in formative assessment and bringing knowledge ‘to life’ in delivery; how to make links to the industry and build on students’ core knowledge within the specialist area.

Supporting student progression virtual event
This session will focus on the student journey through the qualification and how we can support their progression.
