This award recognises a member of behind-the-scenes staff who has gone above and beyond to help learners or their colleagues. This award is open to Exams Officers, Teaching Assistants, Facilities, Pastoral or Support Staff, or any other non-teaching roles within education.
What should my nomination include?
You can write up to 1,000 words about why you’re nominating this person for this award. You should consider including the following in your nomination:
- Has this person provided exceptional support or made a significant contribution inside or outside the classroom, to make a real difference for both teachers and learners at the centre? Give details of this.
- Has this person gone above and beyond their role to make a difference for learners, teachers or others at the centre?
- Has this person taken opportunities to develop and progress, to improve their practice and ensure they’re providing the best possible support to others?

Our Support Staff of the Year 2024: Simon Sharratt
Our 2024 winner, Simon Sharratt, was recognised for his exceptional contributions and innovation. He has not only transformed the use of technology within The Sheffield College, where he works as a Digital and E-Learning Coordinator, but has also significantly enhanced the educational experience for both his colleagues and learners.
Our Support Staff of the Year 2023: Amy Yorke
With a rich background in health and social care and an understanding of the challenges that the sector faces, Amy works closely with local health and social care employers, universities and wider stakeholders, to ensure that Warrington & Vale Royal College supports the local sector and meets local skills needs.
