What does this qualification cover?
The purpose of this qualification is to provide learners (ages 11-16) with the knowledge and understanding that will enable them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships.
It will help to build learner self-efficacy and develop resilience which will enable learners to meet the challenges of creating a happy and successful adult life and becoming a productive member of society.
The qualification has been mapped to the Department for Education’s guidance for Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education (HE) for secondary schools ensuring every aspect of the statutory requirement is covered.
What is a nested qualification?
This qualification is nested. Qualifications within a nested suite allow learners to be topped up to a qualification that is the same level and subject within the Award, Certificate structure. Who is it suitable for?
This qualification is designed for secondary school age learners studying compulsory Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education (HE).
What are the entry requirements?
Entry is at the discretion of the centre. However, the units of this qualification are targeted at specific year groups with age and developmental appropriate content.
There are no specific prior skills/knowledge a learner must have for this qualification.
Centres are responsible for ensuring that this qualification is appropriate for the age and ability of learners. They need to make sure that learners can fulfil the requirements of the learning outcomes and comply with the relevant literacy, numeracy and health and safety aspects of them.
Learners registered on this qualification should not undertake another qualification at the same level with the same or a similar title, as duplication of learning may affect funding eligibility.
How is this qualification structured?
To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Relationships, Sex and Health Education learners are required to successfully complete 5 mandatory units.
To achieve this qualification, learners must successfully demonstrate their achievement of all learning outcomes of the units as detailed in the Qualification Specification. A partial certificate may be requested for learners who do not achieve their full qualification but have achieved at least one whole unit.
How is it assessed?
The assessment consists of one component:
- an internally assessed portfolio of evidence which is assessed and internally quality assured by centre staff and externally quality assured by NCFE.
A workbook is available on our website for learners to use to populate with evidence. The workbook can be altered to meet your specific needs or you can create your own portfolio/assessment methods. If you do create your own assessment methods you should check with you External Quality Assurer if it is acceptable.
How long will it take to complete this qualification?
The Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for this qualification are 168, and the Total Qualification Time (TQT) is 188.
What related qualifications can you progress to?
Learners could progress onto further education, including a T Level in Health.
