National thank a teacher day – be part of the celebrations
National Thank a Teacher Day is approaching on Wednesday 23 June, and we’d like to encourage the whole country to come together in celebration of the amazing work that schools, colleges, teachers, lecturers and support staff do every day.
We understand how hard teachers are working in this challenging and exceptional year, and as well as honouring them through our Aspiration Awards, we’d love to see as many teachers as possible be recognised on National Thank a Teacher Day.
How can I take part?
There are lots of ways you can get involved with this celebration, both on the day and in the lead up to it.
Send a free, personalised thank you card
Anyone can send a card for National Thank a Teacher Day. The Thank a Teacher campaign recognises all staff working in UK schools and colleges; school leaders, teachers, teaching assistants, and all support staff such as lunchtime supervisors, caretakers and cleaners. If you or your learners are feeling shy, you can send a card anonymously!
The #HowWillYouSayThankYou competitions
Once the free card has been sent, your learners will also have the chance to enter the #HowWillYouSayThankYou competitions. Encourage your learners to enter these celebrity-judged competitions before entries close on 23 June. They can bake, write, or show off their drawing skills for their teaching heroes and they could receive a special celebrity shout-out!
The prizes are fantastic and learners who enter can win:
- a day’s work experience at TES
- a creative writing competition judged by Sir Michael Morpurgo
- a baking competition judged by Nadiya Hussain
- a drawing competition judged by Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler.
Wear something sparkly
On 23 June, the campaign wants the nation to sparkle for their teaching stars! Show off your sparkly outfits, jewellery and glitter with the hashtag #ThankATeacherDay.
You can find out more information about on-the-day activities and the campaign here.
Thank you from NCFE
We want to take this opportunity to thank you and all your colleagues for the fantastic work you are doing this year. Thank you to everyone who submitted nominations for our Aspiration Awards 2021. Our judges are reviewing all the fantastic entries and we’re looking forward to announcing the winners in early July.
