Important V Cert updates to support your delivery
Model 5 V Cert Technical Awards
As you approach the completion of teaching and learning for the Model 5 V Cert technical awards, you should begin to prepare for the delivery of the Non-Examined Assessment (NEA).
Below is a reminder of all the available resource we have in place to support you.
Prepare to assess
A recorded session is available to provide generic guidance on preparing to assess the NEA. This session will help you to develop your confidence and understanding of grading criteria when assessing your learners’ responses to the internally assessed, externally moderated assessments.
Tutor Guides
Information in relation to the delivery of each NEA is provided in the Tutor Guides available on the qualification pages on our website.
Sample NEA
Sample NEAs for all model 5 V Cert technical awards are available. You’ll find these documents in the assessment materials section of the relevant qualification page on our website.
Exemplar NEA responses
Exemplar NEA responses for our model 5 V Cert technical awards are now available. You’ll find these documents in the assessment materials section of the relevant qualification page on our website.
The exemplar NEA responses will support you in understanding how marking grids should be used and applied. The materials will also be a useful tool to use as part of internal standardisation activities, to ensure that assessors and internal quality assurers (IQAs) understand how to apply marks. We suggest that standardisation activities continue throughout the assessment window, transitioning from the exemplar materials to live learner work, which will ensure marking is being completed consistently.
Accessing assessments
Ensure that all relevant users who need access to the assessment materials have a Portal log-in. If you need to create an additional Portal log-in, you can do this using the Portal User Guide.
You can access the NEA assessment materials by going to bookings – view assessments. Further support on uploading and downloading assessment can be found on our website page Accessing assessment support

Any remaining learners with a registered status should be ready to take the final synoptic assessment in summer 2024.
The Synoptic Project brief was released on 6 November 2023. It can be accessed, for all registered learners, by making a booking for a controlled assessment on the NCFE Portal. Once you have booked your learners onto the assessment, the assessment materials will be available to download, as a zip file, from the booking confirmation page within the portal. For further guidance see the Portal User Guide.
As a reminder from our previous update in October, please ensure any remaining learners with a registered status are reviewed and the appropriate action taken to complete the learners within the Portal. This action should be taken by 31 December 2023 to provide us with a clear picture of the final learners intending to certificate in summer 2024.
- if the learner(s) have completed a previous synoptic assessment and you intend to claim achievement for them, please make the required certificate claim as soon as possible and before the certification end date
- if the learner(s) will not be certificating, then ensure they are withdrawn
- if the learners are continuing their studies and will be completing the synoptic assessment in summer 2024, then you need to book them onto the internal assessment now.
Failure to take action with the above request may constitute as malpractice and the JCQ suspected Malpractice: policies and procedures would be followed.
It’s important that the administration of your learners is managed appropriately in the portal to ensure that timely and accurate results can be issued to learners.
