Changes to the moderation process for the Education and Early Years T Level

For 2024-25, we’ve made changes to the moderation process for both Occupational Specialisms within the T Level in Education and Early Years. Following your feedback, we’ve updated the sampling strategy for the moderation of:

  • Occupational Specialism: Education and Early Years (EYE) for both Assignment 2 Part 1 and Part 2
  • Occupational Specialism: Assisting Teaching (AT) Assignment 2.

The updated sampling strategy will reduce the number of moderator visits that need to be organised, giving you more time and flexibility with placement settings and timetabling. The uploading of evidence will also be streamlined to the Portal only, therefore a reduction in the number of systems needing to be used.

EYE Assignment 2: Part 1

  • As part of moderation for this assignment, you’ll receive an in-person visit with a moderator and a follow up remote meeting, taking place within 5 working days of the in-person visit.
  • Your moderator will plan their visit to observe the assessment of each of the competence-based criteria and discuss their assessment decisions with you. The visit will be for one full day. They will plan to observe each criteria at least once during the day, this will most likely be across a range of students. You must ensure that the observations scheduled for the day of the moderator’s visit covers all competence-based criteria via either observation or professional discussion with the student. If not all criteria are observed during the visit, this will need to be covered in the follow up remote meeting with the assessor, in the form of a professional discussion.
  • The follow up remote meeting will take via Microsoft Teams and will provide the opportunity for feedback on assessment decisions made on the day of the visit.
  • Following the remote meeting, you’ll receive a moderation report detailing the outcome of the visit and if applicable will include actions for you to take forward.

  • Moderation for stage 1 will take place between 3 February and 16 May 2025 assessment window.
  • A maximum of 3 students in the sample will be completed via face-to-face moderation, the remainder of the sample will be moderated remotely. Once your moderator has selected their sample for stage 1 moderation, they’ll work with you to determine which students will be moderated via a face-to-face visit and which will be moderated remotely.
  • You must ensure that face-to-face visits for all students are scheduled to take place within a 2-day window, dates do not need to be consecutive but must be agreed with the moderator.
  • For students selected for remote moderation, you’ll need to ensure that required evidence is uploaded to the portal within 10 working days of the assessment taking place. Dates for this activity should be agreed with the moderator.
  • Further remote moderation will take place once the assessment window closes. This is stage 2 and 3 moderation. This is only required if a provider is marking out of tolerance during stage 1, meaning further sampling is required. You’ll be contacted via email should further samples be required.
