V Certs and schools

On this page you will find information relating specifically to V Cert qualifications that have been affected by the latest Government announcements.

With that in mind, this web page sets out our latest advice on:

  • adaptations to synoptic projects
  • webinar recordings taking you through adaptations for V Certs
  • exams which take place in an assessment window
  • cancellation of February and March exams.

Adaptations to synoptic projects

Due to national lockdown and centres moving to online delivery, we know that the synoptic project for our V Cert qualifications (listed below) cannot be delivered in the usual way with the existing control measures. See the qualifications affected below:

Therefore, we have made a number of adaptations with remote learning in mind:

  • Removal of Controlled Regulations - centres will not be required to implement NCFE’s Regulations for the Conduct of Controlled Assessment to monitor the completion of the synoptic project and therefore learners will be able to complete the synoptic project at home, unsupervised. In terms of marking and quality assurance, there will be no change, in that centres will still mark the synoptic projects, internally quality assure the work, and then submit for external quality assurance.
  • Removal of set hours for completion - we have removed the ‘21 hours completion time’ restriction, meaning there is now no set number of hours in which the synoptic project must be completed. However, learners are still required to complete the learner logs and record the hours taken to complete their synoptic project to support marking of ‘Assessment Objective 5’.
  • Amendment of synoptic project deadlines - grades were due to be submitted on the Portal by 31 March 2021, however this has now been changed to 30 April 2021 (21 May for Engineering), to allow additional time. If, following external quality assurance, learners require a second submission, this must be completed and grades submitted by 30 June 2021 (16 July for Engineering) to ensure there is adequate time for your external quality assurance review to take place and so that certificates can be claimed for performance points.
  • Adaptation to synoptic project briefs – the updated Adaptation Templates are now available on the qualification web pages linked below and the revised synoptic project briefs are available via the bookings page on the portal.

Catch up on our webinars

We recently ran a series of webinars where David Kiernan, our dedicated V Cert Curriculum Officer, took attendees through the detail of the adaptations for these qualifications step by step – from delivery to assessment. You can catch up on these via the links below.

Exams which take place in an assessment window and cancellation of February and March exams

Please take a look at our ‘plans for exams’ page here which details arrangements for exams which take place in an assessment window and cancelled assessments for the coming months.

We want to again reassure you and your learners that we will put arrangements in place for learners who are now unable to take their external assessments, to ensure they are not disadvantaged. Ofqual’s consultation on arrangements for issuing grades this year for regulated VTQs closed on Friday 29 January. The responses to this survey are currently being analysed by Ofqual and the Department for Education and the outcomes will be published at the end of February. Read more. You can access further guidance from Government here.
