Direct Claim Status (DCS)

Rewarding excellence

We believe strongly in promoting and encouraging best practice. Which is why we offer Direct Claim Status (DCS), a scheme that enables you to claim learner certificates without needing authorisation from your External Quality Assurer (EQA).

Meeting our criteria

Our DCS quality criteria are measured and reported on through the external quality assurance visits carried out by our EQAs.

For DCS to be achieved after one visit, your centre must have achieved an EQA visit report which shows:

  • grade 1s exclusively
  • no outstanding actions from your previous EQA visit report
  • a minimum of 3 learner portfolios sampled on the visit, with at least 2 completed portfolios sampled and marked as ‘final’; other learners sampled can have ‘new’ or ‘mid’ status
  • reliability of assessment graded as A.

For DCS to be achieved after 2 visits, your centre must have 2 consecutive EQA visit reports over a maximum period of 18 months which show:

  • grade 1s, 2s and 3s exclusively
  • a gap of at least one month between the two visits
  • no outstanding actions from your previous EQA visit report
  • a minimum of 3 learner portfolios sampled on each visit, with at least 3 completed portfolios sampled over the 2 visits; other learners sampled can have ‘new’ or ‘mid’ statuses
  • reliability of assessment graded as A or B.

Transferring DCS from another Awarding Organisation

Have you achieved DCS with another Awarding Organisation (AO) for a qualification that is also offered by NCFE? If so we may be able to honour this. All you need to do is complete the DCS Transfer Form here (or use the link at the top of this page), and include the appropriate evidence.
