NCFE qualification supports learners’ aspirations for career in Interactive Media

Interactive Media students at Gillingham School in Dorset set their sights on careers in the Media and IT industries. Studying the Level 2 Technical Award in Interactive Media, the learners have gained valuable vocational skills that can be used in their future.

Throughout this qualification, learners gain valuable knowledge of how to identify and experiment with interactive media products, materials, techniques and processes as well as the industry and associated job roles. Learners get an insight into how to work to interactive media briefs, refining, developing and selecting ideas and forming a portfolio.

While searching for an alternative to an expired ICT qualification, Paul Nicholson, the Head Teacher of Gillingham School happened to visit a school delivering NCFE V Cert qualifications. He noticed how engaged the students were with their learning and decided to look into NCFE options further, before coming to an informed decision to select this qualification to deliver.

Nick Hall, Head of Computer Science and Interactive Media at Gillingham School, said: “The Level 2 Technical Award in Interactive Media from NCFE was a perfectly suited qualification to our requirements. We really like the qualification content and the style of assessments. Having 60% internal assessments offers learners the chance to develop their practical software skills in a way that will be valuable for them in their future education and career.

“Our learners are really enjoying the V Cert qualification. They enjoy the practical lessons and see the relevance of the skills they are learning. NCFE offers unique qualifications that are tailored to providing learners with useful technical skills.”

Nick continued: “NCFE offer timely and effective support to centres, and they have been great to work with from the beginning. Training events and support meetings provided have been really useful, with a mix of webinars and face to face meetings, all of which have been presented very well.

“I would definitely recommend the NCFE Interactive Media qualification to other centres as learner engagement is extremely high and delivery staff enjoy teaching the content.”

Martin, Interactive Media learner at Gillingham School commented: “I’m really enjoying studying the NCFE V Cert and I have gained valuable skills and knowledge about Interactive Media. With aspirations to work in the website development industry, this qualification will be really useful to my future learning and for when I enter the workplace.”
