Day in the life of – Apprenticeship Services
Meet Leo Webster, Sales Support Manager for Apprenticeship Services. Find out what he gets up to in a typical day.
What is your role?
I report into Sara Hall who is Head of Apprenticeship Services and I manage a team of 3 Client Relationship Executives. Much of my role is about supporting them so that they can help our learners and centres to navigate EPA as well as promoting our products and services to bring new customers on board.
Another key part of my role is defining and delivering our market strategy which focuses on determining the best ways to approach new and existing customers with the right information, products and services at the right time.
What does a typical day look like?
No two days are the same. We’re still a new business which brings about new situations and challenges every day. Aside from working with my team to implement customer experience initiatives, I spend a lot of time representing NCFE at conferences, exhibitions and on webinars to promote the benefits of our products and services.
We collaborate a lot with other parts of the business so there are always meetings with colleagues from other teams such as the Bid team, Project Services and Product Development.
Who else do you work with?
I work closely with my team, both those who are based in the office and those out in the field. I also spend a lot of my time with Business Development colleagues and the Marketing team and at the moment I have a lot of contact with our Finance team.
What are the biggest challenges in your role?
It can be difficult working in an emerging market for many reasons but our biggest challenge is probably educating our customers about end-point assessment while supporting them through the vast changes we’re all experiencing.
Managing any change can be a challenge in itself but many of our customers are used to a certain way of working so we have to try to take away the element of surprise in this new way of working by focusing on getting the right information to the right audience at the right time.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Working in the unknown! It is challenging but it’s also an exciting time to be part of this emerging market and having been a part of Apprenticeship Services from the very start makes it all the more rewarding to see it grow and to see the tangible impact we’re having on learners.
What’s the best thing about working at NCFE?
The great office vibes. Everyone here is passionate about what they do and the fact that we’re a charity that makes a difference to people’s lives is a real motivation.
