Episode 2: In conversation with... an expert on technology in early years

Over the next couple of months, we’ll be hearing from our sector managers as they delve into discussions with guest speakers and subject experts as part of our ‘In conversation with…’ series. They’ll be covering a range of hot topics in their areas, providing rich and valuable insight into the current opportunities and challenges within their sector.

Episode 2: Janet King and Emma Harvey talk technology in early years

In our second episode, our Subject Manager for Education and Childcare, Janet King, talks to Lecturer, Assessor and IQA at Suffolk New College, Emma Harvey, about the importance of technology in early years teaching and training.

Discussing Emma’s recent research, our experts explore topics such as whether early years professionals have received – and through CPD, continue to receive – sufficient digital training in relation to its current prominence in our day-to-day lives. They also discuss whether the concept of having nominated digital/IT champions in the workplace, as well as revised resources, could be a supportive and beneficial solution for early year practitioners.

There are lots of different factors that we need to think about when talking about the use of technology in settings. It's not just about how practitioners use it for marketing or for communication with parents [...] You've also got working with children, supporting them with being safe in using technology, and using it for creating rather than just consuming with them. [...] There's so much to look at!
